Why is environmental education important?<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Environmental education is more than learning about environmental processes; environmental education involves discovering the dynamic connections between people and ecosystems, both in the classroom and out in the field.\u00a0 Too often we separate ourselves from our surroundings, but we are as much a part of our environment as the trees or the water.\u00a0 We are a part of the natural processes that occur everyday, and our health, wellbeing, and livelihoods are intimately connected with the health of our environment. \u00a0Exploring our role in the ecosystem is an important endeavor as we seek to understand critical local, regional, and global issues now and in the future.<\/p>\n

Who is the Coalition for the Upper South Platte?<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

The Coalition for the Upper South Platte (CUSP)<\/a> is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit with a mission to protect the water quality and ecological health of the Upper South Platte Watershed, through the cooperative efforts of watershed stakeholders, with emphasis placed on community values and economic sustainability.\u00a0 Just as we believe that looking all around helps us to better understand our place in the world, we recognize a wide variety of factors and processes affect the watersheds we rely on.\u00a0 This is why we focus on issues ranging from forest health to energy and involve stakeholders with diverse interests in our work.\u00a0 Education is the common thread that runs through everything we do; we are committed to learning and sharing knowledge.<\/p>\n

What does the service learning program offer?\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

The service learning program combines quantifiable learning objectives with on-the-ground service projects that address critical environmental needs.\u00a0 Environmental education modules complete with lesson plans, learning materials, and assessments are available for elementary, middle, and high school students for a variety of topics at no charge.\u00a0 Service learning projects in the Upper South Platte Watershed compliment the lessons learned in the classroom and provide students the opportunity to apply what they are learning while engaging in meaningful service in their community.\u00a0 The program is designed to meet Colorado state standards with a focus on 21st<\/sup> century learning skills.<\/p>\n

How do I access the program?<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Teachers: Please register to access the learning modules by clicking here<\/a>.\u00a0 Registration is free and ensures the site is safe for student use and helps us improve the program.\u00a0 After filling out the short registration form completely, you will receive a username and password via email. \u00a0\u00a0Students will be assigned logins from their teachers that will allow them to access the site.\u00a0 Homeschoolers are encouraged to register<\/a>!<\/p>\n
