{"id":1003,"date":"2013-02-22T16:14:53","date_gmt":"2013-02-22T16:14:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learn.uppersouthplatte.org\/?page_id=1003"},"modified":"2015-02-02T19:53:37","modified_gmt":"2015-02-02T19:53:37","slug":"reducing-solid-waste-for-a-healthier-tomorrow-students","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uppersouthplatte.org\/learn\/reducing-solid-waste-for-a-healthier-tomorrow-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Reducing Solid Waste for a Healthier Tomorrow &#8211; Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Students,<\/p>\n<p>When humans started settling into villages, towns, and cities, our ancestors discovered how big a problem solid waste (garbage) could be.\u00a0 Now, with so much of what we use designed to be disposable or quickly replaced with the newest version, our solid waste problem keeps growing.\u00a0 Over time, we have developed many different ways of dealing with our trash, but we have yet to discover a perfect way of managing ever-increasing amounts of garbage.\u00a0 As populations around the globe keep growing, communities have adapted to their solid waste situations.\u00a0 Unfortunately, for many this has led to unhealthy environments and poor human health.<a href=\"http:\/\/uppersouthplatte.org\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/garbage-landfill-100522-sw.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1004 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/uppersouthplatte.org\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/garbage-landfill-100522-sw-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"garbage-landfill-100522-sw\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uppersouthplatte.org\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/garbage-landfill-100522-sw-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/uppersouthplatte.org\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/garbage-landfill-100522-sw-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/uppersouthplatte.org\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/garbage-landfill-100522-sw.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As we think about the huge amount of solid waste we create, it is also important to consider all the materials going into the products, packaging, food, etc. that end up as waste.\u00a0 The resources to make these goods are limited.
